AMOR (MOzambican Recycling Association), under the project Environment and Citizenship, funded by the European Union through the Program of Support to Non-State Actors, encouraged in the month of September the Environment and Citizenship Clubs (CAC’s) to make self-assessment using the systemic tree, that is, comparing the CAC’s with a tree, which was to draw a tree (roots, trunk and branches) where the roots have motivation and commitment, the tree trunk, the institutions that support the clubs and branches and their leaves represent the activities they developed, the performance of the clubs.

Made self-assessment and as a way to make the CAC’s more functional, active and provide them the accountability of habit, was created five (5) working committees namely:

• Commission to promote hygiene education and awareness

• Commission of recycling workshops promoting trade fair

• Commission of issues of citizenship and participation

• Commission to promote issues of green spaces and planting trees (school gardens)

• Commission advocacy and promotion of the image.

These commissions are addressed and entitled to internal monitoring by the members of the clubs.

AMOR will do the monitoring and evaluation supporting them in all difficulties that arise. AMOR is also teaching to the CAC’s the importance of planning activities to better achieve its objectives. Thus each Club is doing a weekly planification of these activities.

For example as the fulfillment of the action plan Environment Club and Citizenship and the direction of the High School Sansão Mutemba with AMOR support, organized an fair of environment and citizenship involving all schools working with AMOR. In this event there was exposure of recyclable items and most importantly the exchange of experiences between the CAC’s.

There was also the third meeting of representatives (which took place on September 3th) of the CAC’s in AMOR aimed to spread off the classification of the 2nd quarter of the contest “recycles and win” and to formulate and vote 10 suggestions to improve the waste management. The suggestions will be presented to the CMB and debated.

Ready to protect the environment!
