AMOR- Mozambican Association of Recycling was established in 2009 to promote and organize the recycling of waste, with social impact. In the cities of Maputo, Matola, Beira and the Municipality of Vilanculos, AMOR is implementing systems for separation and collection of recyclable waste for further recycling, generating income for disadvantaged groups through ecopoints network. Ecopoints are collection points and purchase of paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, metal and electronic waste.

In parallel, AMOR develops projects of environmental awareness as the project School Recycles – School Wins and Environment and Citizenship (Projects of Environmental education where schools are awarded with school and sports equipment according to the quantities which they recycle), and in that context AMOR –Mozambican  Association of recycling in partnership with AVSI Foundation, the Municipal Council of the City of Maputo and the waste collection micro-enterprise the Clean Urbe implemented for seven months the project of selective collection and Environmental Education at Unit 29 Primary School.

The project aimed to transform the existing academic community within the school in vectors of change and good practice in relation to environmental problems concretely implementing at the school a system of selective collection of recyclable waste by installing a recycling center infrastructure in school building and integration of environmental education activities with as waste management focus and finally assigning responsibilities to students regarding the generation and conditioning of waste within the school through environmental clubs that were created at school.

The project helped to inculcate in the school community the spirit of responsibility for the care to have with the environment, helped to improve school hygiene and to reduce significantly the deposited waste inappropriately at school.

AMOR thanks AVSI by the partnership in implementing this project, having fulfilled with zeal, rigor and competence in all matters relating to implementation of the same.
