The Mozambican Recycling Association – AMOR is currently implementing in the City of Beira the Citizens Friendly of the Environment project, financed by the European Union under the CSO-LA thematic line, carrying out activities aimed at responding to the objectives outlined by the organization, as well as responding to the mission of promoting recycling and environmental preservation in Mozambique.

To the extent that working conditions in various sectors undergo a period of adaptation and readaptation in the face of the new pandemic that is plaguing Mozambique and the world, AMOR carries out activities that become possible without the compromising of security measures and restrictions that now govern in the country. With the relaxation in some of the restrictions, it was possible to start a series of activities that were previously pending, waiting for the best time to return to active. This report presents the activities implemented by AMOR and Partners for the month of October.

1. Cleaning the Drainage Ditches
As part of the Citizens Friendly of the Environment project, they started cleaning the drainage ditches in the communities.
This cleaning is done by the Community Based Organizations that are partners of AMOR and intends to involve not only the members of CBOs but the community in general, as a way to ensure that there is greater care of the trenches, ensuring better quality in sanitation.
The cleanings will follow a period of one month, with 6 OCBs having been covered, namely OCBdesp, CERECIDE, AMACO, AJUCRE, OJOLISC and ADCS. These OCBs scale their community’s burning ditches and scale the 3 days a week for cleaning work.
AMOR delivered the necessary hygiene and safety material so that OCB’s could start with their activities. Gloves, boots, vests, masks, among other materials needed for the job are delivered.

2. Visit by Evaluation Technicians from the Provincial Directorate of Land and Environment
As part of the Environment Friendly Citizens project, AMOR works with Community Based Organizations that manage community ecopoints in their Centers. Aligned with the monitoring activities of these ecopoints and the partnership that the Mozambican Recycling Association has with local authorities, on the 7th and 8th of October 2020 at the invitation of AMOR, the Provincial Directorate of Land and Environment (DPTA) carried out a series of visits to OCB’s.
The visit lasted 2 days and included 6 community ecopoints (OCB’s) of AMOR for the project in question, namely: ADCS at the Community Development Center – CDC (Chipangara), OCDESP at the 7th Neighborhood of Matacuane (New York), OJOLISC at the Center of Community Development – CDC (Munhava Mananga), AJUCRE – Community Development Center – CDC (Inhamizua), Cerecide in Bairro da Manga (Solar) and AMACO in the Community Development Center – CDC (Muave).
The visit had as an agenda to follow up and monitor the aforementioned CBOs, in order to learn about the activities that each association has carried out at the local community level. DPTA was represented by Dr. Ndabanga Maurício and by dr. Carlitos Rodrigues, and was accompanied by the OCB’s Technician from AMOR, Raimundo Maceu.

3. Training in Visual Arts and Recycling
The Mozambican Recycling Association, in partnership with the Casa da Cultura in the city of Beira, is conducting a visual arts course with a focus on recycling, where the aim is to teach the group of students better techniques in the field of recycling and visual arts. Twenty students who were members of the Environment and Citizenship Clubs were selected, totaling a selection of 2 per secondary school.
The selected students will be the pioneers and monitors in school recycling activities with the Clubs, they will have the role of teaching other members what they will learn during the training with the Professor of Arts and Recycling, Francisco.
This training will last for 2 months, and takes place twice a week, for a period of 4 hours a day, at Casa da Cultura. During October, the first month of training, there was an attendance of around 98%, meaning that students almost do not miss a day of training, and if it happens, they have had
the possibility of finding out about the content learned in the absence.
