Environmental Awareness and Cleaning Day in the Fishermen’s Quarter, Maputo City allusive to the World Environment Day In this action we had as results the participation of 30 volunteers among them fishermen and community in general, and collected 35 bags of various types of waste, including: 10 fishing nets, Glass, plastics, metals, used clothes, among others.
At the local school, Escola Primária Completa da Costa do Sol, the students in general were made aware of the importance of celebrating the World Environment Day Environment Day which is celebrated annually on June 5 under the slogan: Solutions to Plastic Pollution.
There was an exhibition of recyclable material made by students during the 1 year period of implementation of of the activities.
The above activities are monthly and are supported by the Municipal Council of Maputo, funding from the Ocean Conservancy (ICC) in partnership with the Cooperative for Environmental Education Repensar, Geração Consciente, Planeta Azul and local associations: Community Council of Fishing Community Council, Fishermen’s Association and Fishermen’s Market. These activities aim to reduce the amount of solid waste at sea and raise awareness among the local population about the importance of marine ecosystems as a vector for preserving the environment and safeguarding human health.
